Congratulations to Sligo Grammar School’s senior squad who secured the Connacht Tribune Schools Senior Cup on Wednesday last. The team, who Shooting Stars are proud sponsors of, produced an outstanding performance and we where delighted to be there to witness it.

Sligo Grammar School v Salerno (Jesus and Mary) – Connact Schools Senior Hockey Semi-final

We finally got to shoot some Hockey! Sligo Grammar School against Salerno Salthill at the Sports Complex. Took us a while to get up to speed with the ebb and flow of the game but was very enjoyable (apart from the score that is). Photos from the game and be viewed and ordered here or instore.

Sligo Grammar School v Marist College Athlone

Sligo Grammar School’s Senior Rugby team had their first outing in the Connacht Schools Senior Cup on Tuesday last. Open, running rugby was the order of the day with lots of tries and action on offer – ideal fodder for sports photography.

North Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals

We’ve just published photos from the North Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals which were held on Wednesday last (January 27th) at Sligo Racecourse. The schools involved where: Sligo Grammar School, Summerhill College, Sacred Heart Westport, Ballinrobe, St Josephs Foxford, Ursuline College, Ballinamore, St Marys Ballina, Swinford, St Colemans College, Carrick C.S., St Muredachs, Grange P.P.S., St Geralds, St Louis Kiltimagh, Ballyhaunis, Mercy Sligo, Coola, St Attractas, Rice College Westport, Balla, St Mels, Ballymahon, St Clares Manor, Drumshambo V.S., Scoil Mhuire Longford, Manorhamilton.

Calasanctius College v Sligo Grammar School – Junior Cup

Ah cup rugby! Nothing comes close to it as a contest. We had the pleasure of going down to Oranmore to photograph Calasanctius College against Sligo Grammar School in the first round of the Connacht Schools Junior Cup – a repeat of the League Final which was played back in November (photos here). In fairness our latest photos don’t do this game justice as both teams put their bodies on the line in a proper battle royale.

Sligo Grammar School v Summerhill College – Senior Friendly

Normally any game involving these two schools is safest photographed from a bunker, with a flak jacket on! But this was a much more amiable affair. A chance for the squad players from both schools to get some rugby under their belts before the Connacht Schools Senior Cup Proper starts. It was a most enjoyable game (for Summerhill) and a great chance for this shooter to see some of the up and coming talent in both schools – in combat – so to speak.

Sligo Grammar Seniors away in Belfast

We got some great photos of the Sligo Grammar Senior Rugby team in action in Belfast recently. They were there to play Campbell College and they where kind enough to give this shooter a lift on the team bus – thanks lads!

Sligo’s Most Talented School 2009

We took a slight departure on Friday night from our usual photographic subject, Sport, and photographed the fantastic “Sligo’s Most Talented School” which was hosted by the Sligo Musical Society in the Sligo Park Hotel. It was a fantastic event with lots of ‘Shooting Stars’. On reflection Talent shows and similar could be thought of as Sport. Certainly the quality and commitment of the contestants wouldn’t be out of place on any playing field in the country.
